Why is the incoterms FOB Japan when I chose ship with DHL which is a door to door service?

The incoterms are set as FOB Japan because the responsibility for the goods transfers to the buyer once the shipment leaves Japan. Customs clearance is the buyer’s responsibility. However, when you choose to ship with DHL, a door-to-door service, DHL manages the entire shipping process, including customs clearance and delivery to your address.

Please note that we are not responsible for the regulations of the destination country regarding imports. If your parcel is selected for inspection by customs and additional documentation is required, we will assist as much as possible, but we cannot guarantee a resolution. It is ultimately your responsibility to handle any customs procedures, and import or duty taxes are not included in the shipping cost.

In an FOB shipment, insurance is also buyer's responsibility. When shipped via DHL, your shipment is covered by their standard liability, which covers only part of the value in the event of direct loss or damage while in transit, at no extra cost to you. DHL also offers Shipment Insurance and Extended Liability as optional services available to all customers. If you wish to add additional protection, DHL provides extra insurance for JPY 2,500 or 1.20% of the insured value, whichever is higher (non-taxable). The insured value must reflect the true value of the goods.

To avoid any confusion and extra work for both parties, please inform us before making the payment if you wish to add DHL's insurance.
