Certificate of Origin (COO)
Certificates issued by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry are classified into two types depending on their purpose:
• General Certificate of Origin (Non-Preferential): Issued by the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry mainly in accordance with the laws of the importing country or at the request of the trading partner.
• Specific Certificate of Origin (Preferential): Issued by the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry to qualify for reduced tariffs under Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs).
Please note that we can only issue a General Certificate of Origin, and the cost is JPY 2,000.
In the case of a Preferential (Specific) Certificate of Origin, it is necessary to obtain detailed information from the manufacturer—such as production process records—required to determine origin, and to complete registration and application procedures through the system of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Therefore, we regret that we are unable to obtain this document.
